Lecture with Professor Kim Taylor-Thompson, J.D.
Earlier this year in February, the Department of Black Studies hosted their second lecture of the 2023-2024 Guest Speaker Series, welcoming Prof. Kim Taylor-Thompson, J.D. of the NYU School of Law to Moore Hall. Prof. Taylor-Thompson is a renowned figure in the legal community, having spent 10 years at the DC Public Defender Service, and is also the founder of the Criminal Justice Program at the Brennan Center for Justice in New York. For the past 30 years, Prof. Taylor-Thompson’s teaching and scholarship has focus on the impact of race and gender in public policy – particularly criminal and juvenile justice policy – and the need to prepare lawyers to meet the demands of practice in and on behalf of marginalized communities. Her lecture in February was titled, “There Are Children Here: The Racialized Mistreatment of Black and Brown Children in the Justice System.” Thank you to all the students, faculty, and staff who attended!
